![]() ![]() input on the technics old school power amp. I use an audio output from the denon to supply signal to the AUX. To really power these speakers the way they were meant to, i use a switch box to change speaker outputs from the denon to the old technics setup. this is good enough for movies, but when playing digital music thoroughthe 2 main channels only (145 watts rms/ channel in 2 channel mode)you can max out the volume, but it does not shake the house the way I like. ![]() I found a DENON avr-3805 last year (at $1250.00 )to produce a satisfactory surround setup in our family room and at 40lbs or so, it is a monster capable of 115rms watts through each of its 7 main channels. I have been trying to set up a theater sound in our family room and have "tried" several "Claimed" high power surround amps, most of what I tried couldn't even start to move these speakers woofers then would just shut down(I have tried 10 new surround amps and 9 of them were unable to produce the current required to even start shaking things). ![]() The sound dynamics have had thier 15" woofers blown out several times each and were replaced under warranty for 5years, never had any issues with the audiosphere's to this day. The output of the 18L's is 98db 1watt at 1 meter and the sound dymanics are 102 db. It seemed what each speaker lacked the other filled in, and that is the way they are in my family room today. In order to get a robusk full sound we stacked the sound dymanics on top of each 18L. If you over drive them they shut down and need a O input to reset them, which only occurred on a couple of occasions when we where crazy enough to wire the speakers to produce a 2 ohm load in very large areas. The audiospheres have an active circuit breaker in each of the two pods, one to protect the woofers and one to protect the mid's and highs. For speakers I purchased 2 sets of audiosphere research 18Ls which I still have today and 2 sets of Sound dymanic 1500 concert monitors which i also still have. 1- ADC sound shaper SA-1 spectum analyser and an ADC sound shaper 20 equalizer(never used the eq for boosting signal, just for adjusting the levels for different sounding locations). I used, believe it or not, a radio shack mixing board. well, here's the scoop on the 18L's, if your interested in facts that is.(first if i may, i'll give you a little history)in the early 80's(when I was 15 that is) i started doing dances, i did have the liberty of having and uncle who was a business owner and was nice enough to loan me enough cash to get into music the way no other disc jockey did at the time, I did not want to use PA equipment with all its tinny sounds and bad sound reproduction, I wanted to play music the way it was recorded, I purchased 2-technicss belt drive turntables, 2 technics cassette decks, a technics SE-A3 power amp(350rms/channel into 4ohms) with an SU-A4 preamp. ![]()
